ROOT project officially kicks off in Coimbra

On 31 March 2026, partners of the ROOT project gathered in Coimbra, Portugal, for the project’s official kick-off meeting, hosted by coordinator Instituto Pedro Nunes.

Although the project officially started on 1 February 2026 and partners had already met online in the initial stages of implementation, the meeting in Coimbra marked the consortium’s first in-person gathering. Bringing together eight partner organisations from five countries, the meeting established a common understanding of the project’s objectives, structure, activities and timeline for the next three years.

The session opened with welcome remarks from João Gabriel Silva, followed by presentations from all partner organisations and project teams. Throughout the day, partners discussed the project’s governance structure, management procedures, communication and dissemination activities, stakeholder engagement and co-creation processes, career guidance development, exploitation and impact strategies, and the design and implementation of the project’s Living Labs.

The consortium also reviewed key milestones, reporting procedures and collaboration mechanisms to ensure an efficient and coordinated start to the project.

The ROOT project aims to support and strengthen professional transitions within the Earth Observation sector through collaborative and inclusive approaches involving stakeholders from across Europe.

With the foundations now in place, partners will begin the implementation of the project’s activities over the coming months.
